Applications Now Open for Kids’ Chance Scholarships in Alabama

February 18, 2025 – (MONTGOMERY, Ala.) – The Alabama Law Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2025 Kids’ Chance Scholarships, a program designed to support the educational aspirations of young people whose parent or parents have been permanently and totally disabled or killed on the job.

The loss or serious injury of a working parent can place a significant financial burden on families, making higher education seem out of reach. Kids’ Chance scholarships help ease that burden by funding college tuition or technical training for eligible students.

Scholarships range from $500 to $2,500 and are awarded annually. Students may reapply each year they are enrolled in classes. The application period is open now through June 5, 2025.

To apply, students must submit:

  • A transcript from their current school (high school, college, or technical school)
  • A financial aid letter from their college or technical school
  • Proof that a parent has been permanently and totally disabled due to an on-the-job injury (such as a court order or statement from a workers’ compensation insurance carrier)
  • A death certificate (if applicable)
  • A brief description of the accident
  • A copy of the most recent tax return of a parent or guardian
  • Letters of recommendation (optional)

Kids’ Chance was established in Alabama in 1992 by the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Alabama State Bar and is administered by the Alabama Law Foundation. The program is funded entirely through donations from corporations, organizations, and individuals committed to helping the children of injured workers pursue their educational goals.

If you know a student who may be eligible, please encourage them to apply. Additionally, families with younger children can register for the Kids’ Chance Planning for the Future initiative to receive information on future scholarship opportunities.
