A Message from ALF President Leslie R. Barineau
Greetings,
Springtime is here with its unpredictable weather, March Madness, and The Masters – who doesn’t love this time of year?
This past year each month we have highlighted the various programs, scholarships, and organizations that are funded and administered by ALF. We will continue with these monthly spotlights to ensure that you will be aware of the continued good work ALF is doing as the “heart of the Alabama State Bar.”
“The single biggest way to impact an organization is to focus on leadership development. There is almost no limit to the potential of an organization that recruits good people, raises them up as leaders, and continually develops them.” John Maxwell
Sister Jean from Loyola-Chicago is still going strong at age 104. LeBron James reached a milestone in his career of 40,000 points. Caitlin Clark secured the all-time NCAA Division I scoring record. Nick Dunlap, a University of Alabama golfer, became the first amateur in 33 years to win a PGA Tour tournament.
Who is your Sister Jean or Nick Dunlap?
Who is that person that will excel for your organization? More likely than not, it is someone who you may least expect or maybe it is someone who has been around all along. So, how do you recognize or develop that individual to be exceptional?
One of the ways is through involvement with the organization, not only financially, but in its strategic planning, development, and governance by being a board member. It is critical for an organization to have strong leadership through its Executive Director, staff, and board members. By working together to further the mission of your organization, like we do at ALF, a level of excellence can be achieved.
So, what are you doing to excel and lead? Are your actions inspiring others in your organization to excel?
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.” John Quincy Adams
Enjoy the “madness” of the season.
Warmest Regards,
Leslie R. Barineau

2024 Fellows
The Alabama Law Foundation established the Fellows program in 1995 to recognize esteemed Alabama attorneys for their notable contributions to both their profession and local communities. The inaugural Fellows were former presidents of both the Alabama State Bar and the Alabama Law Foundation.
With a stringent selection process involving recommendations from existing Fellows, the Fellows committee handpicks an exceptional cohort of lawyers who have exhibited an unwavering commitment to bettering their communities and the state. Membership is limited to no more than 1% of Alabama State Bar members.
